My name is Reem Lajin, and I am the founder of Animals To Safety.
Our story began in 2019, when I visited Syria and witnessed firsthand the overwhelming suffering of the countless stray cats and dogs. Their lives on the streets are filled with pain, fear, hunger, and neglect — too often ending in slow and agonizing deaths.
Every day, I saw cats struck by cars and left to die — many with broken bones and open wounds, struggling to drag their frail bodies in search of a drop of water or a scrap of food. Dogs faced an equally horrific fate: poisoned, shot, tortured, burned, and even raped.
I could not turn away. I needed to be a ray of hope for these souls, and so my journey began — taking in and caring for the most abused and suffering cats and dogs near Aleppo.
I believe that spay and neuter programs and medical attendance are the key to ending this cycle of misery, especially in countries where war and poverty have made it nearly impossible for people to care for their animals or for local rescues to afford sterilization programs. I am also focusing on ways to get those abandoned and mistreated dogs and cats out of the horrible environment they are living in, exposed to tourture and suffering-to new beginnings in more kind countries.
Animals To Safety was born out of that belief — a mission to bring compassion, medical care, and hope to the forgotten animals of Syria..
